On YouTube, I take you with me to explore the small and large natural stories right on our doorstep and beyond. I also regularly offer a behind-the-scenes look at wildlife filmmaking and share insights into my work in the field, allowing you to join me on my shoots in nature.

Architect in Clay | Nature on Our Doorstep – Episode 008
A clay wall is far more than just soil. Here, chimney wasps build their nests, cuckoo wasps search for opportunities to parasitize, and ants constantly create new challenges.
This short film reveals the hidden world of a small community—and the fascinating relationships that shape their lives.
An Evening with Badgers | Nature on Our Doorstep – Episode 007
In mid-May, I took some time to visit one of my favourite animals. Badgers have accompanied me for many years—or perhaps it is the other way around.
They marked my final step into professional wildlife filmmaking, and I still enjoy every opportunity to observe them in spring and summer. Especially fascinating are the young badgers when they emerge from the sett for the first time.
Migratory Birds in the Wadden Sea | Nature on Our Doorstep – Episode 006
In this video, I follow an immense movement. Millions of migratory birds in the Wadden Sea rest, feed, and gather strength for their journey ahead.
When entire flocks take to the air at once, the sheer energy and dynamism of this landscape becomes tangible.
2 Hours in the Forest – What Happened | Nature on Our Doorstep – Episode 005
In this video, I take you to a forest hide. No movement, no rush—just the rustling of leaves, bird calls, and the small moments that reveal themselves only to those who are patient.
Over the course of two hours, several forest inhabitants appear: woodpeckers at work in the trees, a hawk suddenly moving between the trunks, and later red deer cautiously making their way through the forest. Encounters like these often happen quietly and unexpectedly. You just have to sit still long enough to witness them.
European Bison Winter in Poland | Nature in Europe 001
Snow and cold make it increasingly difficult for the reintroduced bison in Białowieża National Park to find food. In search of nourishment, they roam across vast areas and repeatedly come into proximity with humans.
Winter on Amrum | Nature on Our Doorstep – Episode 004
Winters on the coast are one thing—stormy and beautiful. At the beginning of the new year, I spent a week on the island of Amrum. I had not expected so much snow and ice to cover the island at this time of year, which resulted in a truly unique landscape and an unexpected encounter.
Life in the Autumn Forest | Nature on Our Doorstep – Episode 003
Have you ever wondered what happens in the forest during autumn? I asked myself this question, grabbed my camera, and headed out into the woods. Join me on this small journey of discovery.
Storm Surge on the Hallig Nordstrandischmoor | Nature on Our Doorstep – Episode 002
A storm surge is always an experience. The first autumn storm brought a storm tide to the Hallig Nordstrandischmoor. Water levels rose to around 1.80 metres, which posed no threat to the inhabited Warft.
For the birds in the mudflats and salt marshes, however, it meant a constant search for remaining dry ground and safe feeding areas.
Starlings over Schleswig-Holstein | Nature on Our Doorstep – Episode 001
Starlings migrate over Schleswig-Holstein on their way to their wintering grounds. As they search for their roosting sites, they gather in large, impressive flocks. Waiting for them on site are birds of prey that hunt the starlings. Their famous formations only appear when they are under attack.
In this video, I have compiled a selection of impressions from the past few days. I hope you enjoy this piece filled with rhythm and nature.
“Wild Schleswig-Holstein” – Showreel by Thies Hinrichsen
Hi, Schleswig-Holstein is incredibly diverse and offers impressive natural experiences. Over the past months and years, I have spent a great deal of time filming here and have come to know my home region from its “wild” side.
Almost all of the footage in this showreel was shot here and includes some of the most beautiful and spectacular moments from this period. The music was specially composed for this showreel by the fantastic Karin Lorenz (contact details below).
